ONE of Britain’s youngest ever basketball referees has been nominated for a ScottishPower/Trinity Mirror Cheshire Your Champions Award.

Thirteen-year-old Connor Green, Ellesmere Port, is a huge basketball fan and recently qualified as a level 2 England Basketball Referee.

Proud father Andy Green, Fern Road, Whitby, Ellesmere Port, explained: “My son has just recently been awarded his level 2 Grading for England Basketball Refereeing.

“In doing this he has become the youngest person to ever achieve this award.”

Connor plays basketball for the Cheshire Junior Jets National league side and also his school teams. He plays in his year group and the three year groups above him.

Andy Green said: “He loves the game of basketball and would love to be able to officiate at a higher level when he’s old enough.”

In Birmingham, Connor was invited to officiate in the BBL all star game in front of 3,500 people last May and and this year he was also asked to officiate at the finals for 2 under 18’s games.

Andy Jones added: “It didn’t bother him at all. I have been told by the governing body chiefs that if he carries on the way he is he could become a top European referee, for someone to achieve this at the age of 12 who just turned 13”
