CHILDREN from The Venue Youth Club in Plas Madoc and staff from Plas Madoc Communities First have raced to the finishing line for charity.

The team completed the 5km Charity Fun Run in Chester to raise £200 for cystic fibrosis charities.

The youngsters laid down the gauntlet to staff at The Venue and Plas Madoc Communities First. Six members of staff took up the challenge.

On a cold Sunday morning, the Plas Madoc team of five youngsters and staff joined the throng of 900 runners taking part in the 5km run around Chester Racecourse.

Everyone involved completed the course and took home medals for their achievement, but special mention goes to Michael Kirk, 16, who finished the race in only 18 minutes. This time put Michael in the top 20 fastest runners on the day.

'We were only too happy to support the young people in this worthwhile fundraising opportunity,' said Miriam Beard, co-ordinator of Communities First in Plas Madoc.

'Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was particularly nice to see Michael do so well - we may well have discovered a new Sebastian Coe here on Plas Madoc!'
