Winnington Park 2nds 0 Sale 2nds 43

WINNINGTON included nine colts in their line-up and did better than several of Sale’s victims this season.

They have scored 64, 69 and 100 points so far, but were restricted for much of the time on their visit to Burrows Hill.

Park were 15 points adrift at the break and redoubled their efforts, conceding no more points until 15 minutes from time.

Harry Stubbs, sidelined with injury for three months, played the last 10 minutes.

All the Colts impressed, especially considering they had a crunch match against Stockport the next day, but lock forward Henry Knowles just pipped centre Callum Hewitt for man of the match.

Park 3rd beat Warrington 3rd 44-19 (Joe Ellis 3, Simon Bytheway 2, Mark Holbrooks, Dave Lilley tries; Matt Thurwell 3 cons, pen).

On Sunday, Winnington’s Colts edged possession and territory, but could not penetrate Stockport and an absorbing and far from dull game ended 0-0.

Park are challenging for the Halbroe League title; Stockport were the competition’s only 100 per centers and they benefited most from the result.

Callum Hewitt came closest to scoring but he knocked on close to the line while a last- minute Stockport penalty faded before the posts.

Other Winnington results: U15s beat Rhyl 41-0 (Matt Treacy 2, Lee Noble, Nathan Richardson, Toby Brace, Jamie Wilson, James Valance tries; Tom Cristofani 3 cons); U14s lost to Rhyl 10-5 (Barlow try); U11s beat Crewe & Nantwich 21-0 (Jack Milne, Dan Eastwood, Callum MacMaster tries; Henry Melrose 3 cons); lost to Whitchurch 21-7 (Ryan Blackie try; Josh Allen con); beat Helsby 21-0 (Milne 2, Jonny Pymm tries; Henry Melrose 3 cons).
