VISITORS to Wrexham Museum were treated to a strange sight when they were greeted by Roman soldiers and shown the weapons, clothes and equipment they used.

With hands-on activities and opportunities to handle replica artefacts from clothing to cooking implements, visitors of all ages were able to gain a unique insight in to the soldiers’ daily lives. Pupils from Ysgol Rhosddu and Saint Christopher’s also had the opportunity to dress up as a Roman soldier and understand the hierarchical roles in the Roman army.

Lynn Podmore, learning and access officer, said: “This was a truly exciting event, which appealed to all ages. Wrexham Museum will be hosting other living history days throughout the year.”

This particular event marked National Archaeology Week and was provided by Roman Tours from Caergwrle.
