THE tables were turned when youngsters staged their own takeover of Winsford Fire Service as part of a national event.

The ‘11 Million Takeover Day’ saw young people around the country offered the chance to spend the day in the shoes of adults to improve leadership and decision-making skills.

The fire service’s Winsford HQ saw young people from Halton getting to grips with equipment and learning from fully-fledged recruits.

Cllr Tony Hooton, chair of the fire authority, said: “Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service recognises the importance of providing opportunities and is committed to listening to, valuing the importance of and recognising the talents of young people in our community.”
