A DELIGHTED nine-year-old will be going to the Olympic football quarter-finals after winning a competition at the Port Arcades.

Wade Powell, of Ellesmere Port, was presented with four tickets to the Olympic football quarter-finals at Old Trafford on August 4 by Les Lyon, centre manager of the Port Arcades Shopping Centre.

Wade is planning to take his 13-year-old brother Warren, his dad and his uncle to enjoy the match.

On Saturday, July 21, shoppers were invited to take part in a hunt to find 10 gold medals hidden in the window displays of shops across the centre.

Each competitor was given a chocolate gold medal for taking part and also entered into the free prize draw.

Wade, who was shopping in the Port Arcades with his grandmother, found all 10 medals and was the winning entry in the prize draw.

Les said: “We were really excited to be able to offer the chance for our shoppers to attend an Olympic event taking place right here in the North West.

“The event on Saturday was a fun way to get young and old alike in the mood for gold medals, and Wade’s delight at winning the prize made it even more worthwhile.”
