THREE schoolgirls who shone in the Northwich heat of a national Young Chef competition were given the chance to present their winning dishes to diners at one of Cheshire’s top hotels.
The 14-year-olds were given an introduction to life in the kitchen when they met Craig Malone, head chef at Nunsmere Hall, Oakmere, to plan a menu for a charity Rotary Club dinner in October.
Northwich heat winner Fiona McEwan, of St Nicholas RC High School, Hartford, prepared the main meat course and Weaverham High pupil Sophie Howard prepared the vegetables
Runner-up Hollie Gillespie, of Leftwich County High, made the dessert.
The competition, organised by Northwich Rotary Club, was open to all Year 9 pupils in the area who were judged on menu planning, preparation, the appearance and texture of the meal and their safety and hygiene skills.
Each contestant had to prepare a two-course meal for two, costing no more than £6, in 90 minutes.
