A GANG of six ‘mindless’ yobs armed with fence posts went on a 10-minute rampage vandalising more than 20 cars in Ellesmere Port town centre.

The group targeted vehicles in Enfield Road, Oldfield Road and Dudley Road between 1.20-30am on Saturday, smashing windows, ripping off wing mirrors and scratching paint.

Police are confident of catching the culprits but are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Carlos Brunes said: “We’re trawling through the CCTV and we’re confident of identifying them, and hopefully making some arrests.

“This is a really unusual but very serious incident. It’s mindless violence. It’s frustrating because we’ve now got to put a lot of resources into this.

“It’s unfair on the people living there who may feel really vulnerable. We want to reassure them that we will be increasing our patrols in that area.”

PC Warwick Evans added: “These incidents have caused a lot of inconvenience and upset for the owners of the cars as well as the cost of getting them repaired.

“I would appeal for anyone who knows the identity of these offenders to call the police or Crimestoppers.”

If you have any information call the police on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
