A TEAM of bright young chemists from Yale College, Wrexham achieved third place in the regional final of the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools Analyst Competition at Bangor University.

The team played the role of forensic chemists on the trail of bogus medicines, competing against teams from across north Wales and the borders.

They were awarded a media player – donated by Gaia Technologies – for the college.

The students had to produce high-quality data that could be used in a courtroom in testing suspect multivitamin pills seized by customs officers.

The teams were assessed on skill, understanding and accuracy, as well as teamwork and safety in the lab.
