A GREAT grandmother from Wrexham, has written a novel Just Us Two, recounting her adventures while motorbiking around Europe.
Rosalie Marsh, 64, of Rhosrobin, along with husband Alan, hit the road in 1999 after spotting a Honda GoldWing while shopping.
"My husband wanted a little bike to fiddle with, but then he saw this absolute monster and everything changed," said Rosalie.
"I’m not a biker, I’m a high heel person, I like my hair to look nice, but I wanted to see Europe and this seemed like a good way to do it."
"Our family had all grown up and we were just a pair of empty nesters.
"We met young and married young, I didn’t even leave the country until I was in my 40s, so this was a chance for us to regain our lost youth and do something for ourselves."
The intrepid pair travelled every summer for almost 10 years, taking in France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.
"My favourite trip was also our longest," added Rosalie.
"We covered 3,700 miles travelling through France and Spain to get to San Sebastian in Andalucia.
"I sat at the back on the Queen’s Seat and watched the world got by.
"It was the first time I thought the scenery matched anything we had back home in North Wales, it was beautiful."
Rosalie finally wrote her novel 10 years after starting it in 1998, publishing it in February with US publishers Authorhouse.
"I wanted to write this novel as I felt we had a story to tell," said Rosalie.
"It’s not just about the travelling, it’s an emotional journey as well, and quite funny.
"I want it to inspire people, we weren't adventurers, we had never travelled, but we became born again bikers, and if we can do it, anyone can!"
Sadly the couple had to sell their GoldWing last year due to Alan becoming ill, but still intend to travel in style, and have bought a convertible car instead.
"Alan and I had so much fun together," added Rosalie.
"It was scary at times, but for us it was a real achievement, and even though I had to sacrifice my hair by cutting it short, it was a small price to pay for doing what we did."
Rosalie’s book Just Us Two is published by AuthorHouse and The book is available online or in book stores. from Waterstones in Wrexham and Llandudno and Borders in Cheshire Oaks
