A WREXHAM solicitor who had a leg amputated is hoping her experiences can help her clients.

Rachael Vasmer, a partner in the clinical negligence department with Walker Smith Way legal firm, which has offices in Wrexham, has returned to work after the amputation of her left leg following a serious infection.

She said: “I will be able to recommend the best sources of help and support to my clients based on my own experience of having a leg amputated.”

The 44-year-old mother of two has had problems with her knee since a hockey injury when she was 15.

In 2008 an external frame was put on her leg with wires and pins going into the bone, but some of the pins got infected.

She said: “Over six months, despite extensive treatment, the infection worsened and the hole inside the bone got bigger meaning my only option was an amputation above the knee.

“I am now learning to walk again with a prosthetic knee and have just started driving again.”

Rachael has won several high- profile cases, including £5m for a client brain-damaged at birth.
