WREXHAM manager Denis Smith hopes to complete the signing of two new players by the end of the week and has others lined up should there be more departures from the Racecourse.

With former Sunderland goalkeeper Mike Ingham already on board as a replacement for Andy Dibble, the Dragons boss is today meeting an outfield player released by a Championship club and also held talks yesterday with another potential target.

Smith, who has lost out-of-contract pair Steve Roberts and Carlos Edwards, said he had no plans at this stage to further strengthen his squad.

But if any more of his free agent players - such as striker Juan Ugarte and defender Craig Morgan - accept offers from other clubs, he knows who he wants to bring in.

"I've got contingency plans for whatever happens with any of those who have been offered new deals to stay at the club," said Smith.

"I've spoken to Juan's representative in the past 24 hours and I'm planning to talk to Juan himself later in the week.

"He's been away on holiday and he's off to Istanbul in the morning to watch the Champions League final but I'm told he has not yet made a decision about his future plans.

"Obviously, there have been a few clubs chasing him and he'll be sitting down after Wednesday to look at the offers that have been put to him."

Smith also confirmed he had spoken to Morgan's agent and was made aware that the young defender was also in demand.

But he added: "I told the agent that if I was Craig I would stay with Wrexham because it would be better for his long-term career.

"Of course he'll be offered more money to go elsewhere but I genuinely believe it's in his own best interests - not just Wrexham's - to stay.

"All things being equal he's got more chance with us of first team football than if he moves on to a bigger club, while there are certain moves that probably wouldn't look too good on his CV.

"I've explained all that to his agent and I know he would stay if we met his financial demands.

" But Craig has got to understand that I've got only a limited amount of money to spread around."

And the Dragons boss knows that if the Wales under-21 international does insist on a move

Wrexham will receive a transfer fee.
