LEVI MACKIN came through last night's Pontins League defeat to Burnley unscathed as the young midfielder aims to boost his match fitness ahead of Wales' next under-21 game.

The 19-year-old was named as skipper for the match at Buckley and showed several good touches as he completed the 90 minutes.

However, Mackin's presence was not enough to save Joey Jones' side from their ninth consecutive defeat - a run which has seen them plummet dramatically from the top to the bottom of the table.

The Clarets took the lead on 23 minutes when a speculative 25-yard effort from Nick Platt - aimed towards Cayne Hanley - evaded everyone, including home goalkeeper Michael Jones, who was unsighted, and sailed into the net.

Either side of the break both keepers, Jones and Burnley's Mark Crossley - not the veteran Welsh international - saved well in one-on-one situations.

Wrexham almost equalised on 76 minutes when Matty Done struck the post after a jinking run down the left-wing and Mark Williams fired over the bar from the rebound.

But Burnley wrapped up the win three minutes later when American winger Danny Karbassiyoon crossed to Robert Turner who beat Mike Williams in the air to despatch a powerful header into the net.

WREXHAM: Michael Jones, Gray, Done, G Roche, G Evans, Mike Williams, Mackin, Fleming, Marc Williams, Braisdell, C Evans. Subs: Darlington, Maxwell, Marriott, Harris, Stewart.
