THE referee who officiated at Wrexham's game on Saturday came under fire from angry fans.
Up to 20 fans hurled abuse at Darren Drysdale as he left the Racecourse ground.
The Dragons lost 1-0 to League Two rivals Carlisle and Reds defender Simon Spender was sent off.
Supporters were furious with a number of controversial refereeing decisions during the game.
Police chiefs confirmed a group of fans vented their anger outside the Racecourse ground and officers kept a watchful eye.
But they denied reports bricks were thrown at the referee's car as Mr Drysdale left.
A police spokeswoman said: "We are not aware of any incident of damage and did not receive any complaints in relation to the referee being assaulted."
A Wrexham spokesman said: "It was all quite low key. There were about 15-20 lads there but police kept an eye on the situation."
