AN IMPROVED recycling centre has opened its doors.

Brymbo's household recycling centre, near Wrexham, is operating again after being refurbished and expanded.

The purpose-built facility has improved its recycling facilities and introduced easier access to skips.

Residents no longer have to wait while skips are emptied as all lorries will be separated from the public using the site.

The facility forms part of the new PFI contract which was signed in May 2007 and was constructed by Waste Recycling Group who will run and maintain the site on behalf of Wrexham County Borough Council.

Residents can recycle newspapers, magazines, plastic and glass bottles, cans, clothing as well as wood, cardboard, rubble, scrap, garden waste, batteries, oil, and white goods.

The centre will be open every day except Christmas Day.

Mayor, Coun David Griffiths, officially opened the site and said: "It is a pleasure to be here to open this much awaited facility. I know the old site was very busy and I have no doubts that this centre will be just as popular.

“Recycling rates are up and residents can now look forward to increasing their recycling rates by using a safer and cleaner site."

The site was shut for six months while work was carried out.

David Rees, General Manager for Waste Recycling Group, said it was a step forward to provide a more sustainable future in waste and resource management for Wrexham.
