WREXHAM are poised to sign Jeff Whitley, the 26-year-old midfielder released by Manchester City.

Whitley was born in Zambia but brought up in Wrexham with his younger brother Jeff, who had a spell at The Racecourse a couple of years ago, on loan from City.

"I thought Jim was joining Northampton but discovered he is still available," said manager Brian Flynn. "I've spoken to him and we'll be having further talks when we return from the Isle of Man."

Flynn is also searching for a 'keeper to replace the released Kevin Dearden. His first target, Mike Stowell, preferred Bristol City.

Wrexham play their last game in the Isle of Man competition against the islanders tomorrow night.
