WREXHAM MP Ian Lucas has said he is “determined” to ensure rail operators are treated equally after meeting with Transport Minister Lord Adonis to discuss local services.
Mr Lucas met the minister along with other MPs to highlight concerns over rail services.
Among the issues discussed were a proposed Virgin rail service which would link to London, which may use publicly funded rail stock to provide its service.
MPs are concerned such a service could compete with the privately funded Wrexham and Shropshire company.
Mr Lucas has said while he backs new transport links they should not be at the expense of others.
He will now be seeking to meet with the office of the Rail Regulator to highlight the relevant concerns for the Regulator around the issue.
He said: “I’m determined any competition to provide rail services should be on a level playing field.
“Public money should not be used to subsidise one service at the expense of another.”
