PARENTS and carers in Wrexham are being encouraged to set up a trust fund for their child.

That’s the message from Wrexham Credit Union, which has just been approved as a Child Trust Fund provider.

Child Trust Fund accounts were introduced by the Government in 2002 to help tackle child poverty and give young people the best start to their adult life.

Parents are given a £250 voucher to start, and encouraged to add to it so their child has some money behind them when they turn 18.

Wrexham Credit Union is a not-for-profit organisation regulated by the Financial Services Authority and open to anyone living or working in Wrexham County Borough.

Anyone setting up or transferring a trust fund before July 31 will be entered into a prize draw, with vouchers up for grabs.

Credit union manager David Collins said: “This is a great opportunity for parents or guardians to put their Child Trust Fund voucher with a safe and convenient local organisation.”
