Wrexham 2 Oxford United 0

JEFFERSON Louis scored an early contender for goal of the season in last Thursday night’s impressive victory over 10-man Oxford.

The well-travelled 29-year-old, having missed an 11th-minute penalty against his former club, capped a mazy run with a stunning finish in injury-time.

Louis also had a role in the Setanta-live clash’s defining moment, flicking on to strike partner Shaun Whalley, who was pulled down in the area by Luke Foster.

The defender could have no complaints about his red card but Louis could only drive his spot-kick straight at Jake Cole.

But Cole, having also saw the bar deny a looping Louis header, was beaten in the 29th minute when Steve Evans stooped to head in.

Man-of-the-match Levi Mackin, Sam Aiston, debutant Kyle Critchell – in for Simon Brown – and Darran Kempson all went close in a one-sided opening period.

But the U’s came into it after the break and Gavin Ward had to produce three fine saves before Louis settled it.
