A LONG-AWAITED project to overhaul a run-down play area in Lostock Gralam is under way.

The £75,000 renovation of the Stubbs Lane playground began last Wednesday and should be finished by mid-December.

Charity Groundwork Cheshire is co-ordinating the project, which is being funded principally by Biff- award – a multi-million-pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts.

Gillian French, of Biffaward, said: “We are delighted to support this worthwhile project. It is vital that the whole community can benefit from a fun and safe outdoor space in which to enjoy themselves.”

The rest of the funding has been donated by Commercial Development Projects Ltd (£10,000), The Garfield Weston Foundation (£10,000), Lostock Gralam Parish Council and Groundwork Cheshire.
