THE Woodland Trust can reveal where Cheshire’s schools are when it comes to taking part in its green activities.

The Trust is publishing the green league table to mark the first anniversary of its Green Tree Schools Award.

The scheme, which is free to participate in and open to all, rewards schools which take part in green activities including tree planting, recycling and reducing carbon emissions.

Cheshire’s schools were 27th out of 47 regions which have schools registered on the green journey.

The results were calculated by counting the number of schools registered in each region and adding how many had reached gold, silver and bronze level.

Karen Letten, schools development manager said: “Even though Cheshire is mid-table it won’t take much to rise up the rankings. Other schools in the area can take inspiration from the 47 that are signed up and are already improving their environment and finding out more about woods and trees. Positive and inspirational experience of trees and woodland at a young age is a key step towards a long term environmental commitment.”
