GENEROUS youngsters filled their school hall with gifts of food to celebrate the harvest festival.

Year 1 pupils of Woodfall Primary School in Little Neston led an infant assembly, learning about the traditions and importance of the festival.

The junior school’s celebrations followed, led by Year 3 children.

Families cleared out their cupboards to provide donations of cakes, biscuits, tinned food, preserves, soup, fruit and vegetables.

After the ceremony, the food was given to Charles Thompson’s mission in Birkenhead.

The charity, founded in the late 19th century, provides a daily drop-in centre for homeless and needy people, serving breakfast, soup, sandwiches and hot drinks.
