POLICE are appealing for witnesses after thieves shunted a car and stole from the woman driver when she got out to check for damage.

At about 3.45pm on Friday police were called to the incident on the A5117 at its junction with the A41 near Cheshire Oaks.

The victim, a 32-year-old local woman, was driving her silver Renault Megane along the A5117 when she was involved in a minor road traffic collision with a black Toyota Celica with two men aboard.

Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman Shelley Williams said: “As the woman got out of the car to examine the damage she was assaulted by one of the men, who then stole her handbag from her car. The men then fled the scene.

“The victim sustained injuries to her face but did not require hospitalisation.”

The two men are described as follows: a white man in his 30s, about 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and dressed in a grey jumper and dark tracksuit bottoms. He wore a woolly cap and had brown eyes.

The second man was black, in his late 20s to early 30s, with short, black crew-cut hair and  stubble.

Neither men spoke with a particularly distinguishable accent.

Witnesses to the incident, or anyone with any information, should call DC Paul Nolan at Ellesmere Port CID, quoting incident 643 October 14.
