Witton Albion ignited the sparks of their survival hopes by turning the tables of play-off chasing Marine.

Gary Finley’s men started how they finished – with goals – to complete an impressive 2-0 win over the Mariners at their Arriva Stadium ground.

Lee Thompson opened the scoring with a superb second-minute strike and it remained at 1-0 until James Olsen sealed the points tapping in from close range.

The victory lifts Witton above three of their relegation rivals and within five points of mid-table.

Witton travel to Altrincham tomorrow night (Tuesday, 7.45pm) for their Cheshire Senior Cup semi-final tie before hosting FC United of Manchester in the league on Saturday (3pm).
