A YOUNG Wirral woman has died following a fatal car crash in Chester.

The 23-year-old, who has not been formally identified yet, died of her injuries at the scene.

Her passenger, a young woman from the Chester area, is currently in hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened on Chester Road, Huntington, Chester, just north of the Rake & Pikel pub, around 4am today (Wednesday, October 22).

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “A red MG car left the road and collided with a tree.

“As a result, the driver, a 23-year-old female from Wirral, died of her injuries at the scene.

“Her front-seat passenger, a 20-year-old girl, received serious internal injures and is currently being treated at the Countess of Chester.”

The Western Area Specialist Investigation Unit’s road policing section is appealing to witnesses to the incident, or anyone who saw any pre-incident driving, to contact them.
