AN ONLINE campaigner who refers to his road as ‘the bodged highway’ has written to the council demanding action over buses using it as a ‘rat run’.

Trevor Nunn, 61, writes an internet blog dedicated to exposing the ‘inherent faults’ in Rookery Rise, Winsford.

His latest gripe is public transport using the unadopted road.

“I was pulling off my drive a couple of weeks ago when a double-decker whizzed past me at high speed,” he said.

“It shocked me as I didn’t know buses were allowed down our road. That’s when I started investigating.”

An anonymous complaint from a neighbour on website fixmystreet.com said the road is being used ‘as a rat run’, and claimed it is not fit for use as a bus route.

Mr Nunn submitted a Freedom of Information (FoI) Act request to Cheshire West Council on July 29 asking for ‘any and all information that will explain why buses are now regularly using Rookery Rise’.

He got a response from CWaC’s Integrated Transport Service on Thursday, which said Rookery Rise had been used temporarily as a diversion while Station Road was closed for roadworks.

It said the decision was made to operate along Rookery Rise because it is a wide road which ‘does not suffer from poorly parked vehicles’ and that it was chosen over the Station Road bypass to enable two bus stops in Station Road to remain in use.

The response also said Rookery Rise is no longer being used by buses, but Mr Nunn claims he spotted one the same afternoon he received the council reply.

He has now submitted a further FoI request asking for clarification.
