Winnington Park 15 Bowdon 32

WINNINGTON Park’s desperate start to their Cheshire and South Lancs One campaign continued at Burrows Hill on Saturday after they gifted Bowdon a 27-point head start.

The game started off in terrible conditions with continuous rain, which made for a scrappy affair and straight from the kick-off Park spilled the ball. Bowdon’s South African back row caught Park off guard and with two minutes gone the away side were ahead.

Two further tries arrived through centre Hechter and hooker Jones, which were complemented by two penalties, putting a rampant Bowdon 27-0 to the good.

Park responded well and with their first passage of play, good work from the backs allowed captain Will Burgess to score with Elliot converting. A penalty from Elliot brought the hosts back into the game.

After the break, Park’s tails were up and they pressed forward through Dan Blades, Tom Brennan, Sam Barton and Mark Patterson but it was Rob Garbett who broke through after beating three defenders on his way to notching his first try of the season.

But it was not enough as Park fell to their fourth successive defeat and are now propping up the league.

Winnington travel to Sefton on Saturday for their EDF Senior Vase Round Two clash (3pm ko).
