Wrexham 1 Winnington Park 1

WINNINGTON continued their good form on Saturday by taking an impressive point from their encounter with a strong Wrexham side.

Park were almost immediately on the back foot as the hosts broke through on goal only for keeper John-Paul Dodd to make a great one-on-one save.

Paul Stackhouse, playing up front alongside Pete Evans had the best of Park’s opening efforts, producing two snap shots the Wrexham keeper did well to save.

Mark Leigh then put Park ahead just after the break from a short corner. Leigh played a quick one-two with Evans and slotted the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.

Man of the match Mark Whalley kept the hosts’ chances to a minimum, but they could not hold out for what would have been a superb victory as Park conceded with just seven minutes remaining.

On Saturday, Park host Lytham St Anne’s at Sir John Deane’s (2pm start), the seconds travel to Neston South Wirral 3rds, the thirds host NSW 4ths (3.30pm start) while the fourths head to Chester 6ths.
