A TROUBLED father-of-two was given community service after stealing clothes, aftershave and Disney merchandise.

Serial shoplifter George Leppart, 34, of Solvay Road, Winnington, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of Burberry aftershave, two Nike T-shirts and High School Musical merchandise between December 3 and January 10.

At Chester Magistrates Court on Monday, prosecutor Caroline Ross said Leppart “has extensive previous convictions for offences of a similar nature” and had been banned from entering any retail outlet in the county because of his past offending.

Stephen Coupe, defending, said Leppart had a “fractured relationship” with his partner and two young children and “has had problems with drink and drugs for a long period of time”.

Magistrates sentenced Leppart to 100 hours of community service and told him to pay £43 costs.
