WREXHAM manager Denis Smith fears the extension of transfer window regulations into the Football League will handicap clubs and adversely affect the development of young players.
Transfer activity next season will be restricted to the summer months and January and the Dragons boss says the fall-out could be damaging.
"Because of Wrexham's situation this season, I've effectively seen what could happen," he said.. "All the smaller clubs will need bigger squads to deal with the prospect of long injury lists and they probably can't afford that.
"And it's not good for youngsters, who sometimes need to go out on loan to other clubs to aid their development as players. Outside of the transfer window how are they going to get the experience?
"Here at Wrexham we used to send youngsters on loan to Welsh Premier clubs but, because that is this country's top tier, those clubs are also bound by the same rules that affect the Premiership."
