EDDISBURY MP Stephen O’Brien has slammed the Planning Inspectorate for overturning a decision to refuse planning permission for a wind monitoring mast on the Bickerton Hills.

Mr O’Brien has warned the mast will be followed by a proposal for wind turbines which will destroy one of the county’s most popular tourist destinations.

He also believes it will threaten much of the surrounding rural economy such as the fast growing equine and equestrian businesses.

The planning application for the anometer (mast) was rejected by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council in February.

Mr O’Brien said: “It is a grave disappointment that the Planning Inspector has overturned the democratic local planning process and that by any test spoiling the Bickerton Hills with even just one turbine would be an obscene abuse of our natural amenities let alone a complete economic nonsense.”
