REFEREE Kerry Morgan was at the centre of attention on at least three occasions as Porthmadog banked their first home point of the season.

The controversial incidents were the issuing of a yellow card when perhaps a red was warranted, a disallowed home goal and a penalty decision advised by a linesman.

Porthmadog’s manager Viv Williams said: “Some baffling things happened on the pitch and, while I don’t like to harp on about the match officials, some of the decisions were beyond me.

“It is about time the league looked at their assessment arrangements and agreed to involve ex-players alongside the ex-referees, who are used currently.

“That is the way forward, because – as things stand now – the players’ viewpoint on various situations that can occur during a match is not taken into account.

“After this particular game, the assessor – when we raised certain issues with him – merely set out to justify the referee’s decisions.”

Second-bottom Porthmadog, who had lost all previous 10 home games, shared the points with top-seven side Welshpool thanks to a penalty apiece in the space of six second half minutes.

Aden Shannon scored for the visitors on 64 minutes after the linesman spotted and infringement but the home side were quickly back on terms through Marcus Orlik when a shot from Paul Roberts was handled resulted in a second penalty decision.
