WILLASTON’s annual festival will bring the spirit of the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee to the village this weekend.

The festival begins on Friday, with a Jubilee concert at Christ Church from 7.30-9.30pm.

The show will feature, among others, the Hadlow Green Singers, pianist John Sones, saxophonist Ben Everitt, tenor Thomas Granby and youth choir BarLine.

Tickets, at £6, can be obtained by calling 0151 327 5191.

Saturday kicks off with a fancy dress parade, starting from the village green at 12.30pm and leading to the main celebration on the Johnston recreation ground.

From 12.45-4.30pm the ground will be packed with food and drink stalls, activities and stalls.

A dog show will also entertain crowds at 1.45pm.

Other events lined up include a Big Jubilee Lunch, drive-in movie showing of Mamma Mia!, a barn dance and the South Wirral Women’s Institute challenge.

Throughout the weekend Christ Church and the Methodist Chapel will be decked out in Olympic and Jubilee themed flowers.
