WREXHAM manager Brian Little will today name his captain for the coming Blue Square Premier campaign, which kicks off on Saturday.

Little wants all his players to be leaders, but the skipper will be a player who the rest of the squad respect and who can keep his head if things start to go against the Dragons.

Little said: “The captain’s got to be someone who can keep his cool, help other team-mates and be depended upon to relay anything that needs to be relayed to the referee.

Here, Post Sport takes a look at the main contenders for the armband.

TOM KEARNEY: Little is pinning his hopes on summer capture Kearney to run the midfield. The former Halifax man is making all the right noises and has been impressive in pre-season. Wore the armband for the 6-0 victory at Stafford last Saturday and looks likely to be first choice in his position.

DARRAN KEMPSON: If Little is looking for a never-say-die attitude he need look no further than centre-half Kempson.

A giant at the back, players won’t want to get on the wrong side of the former Shrewsbury defender, who has hardly put a foot wrong since joining this summer.

CARL TREMARCO: One of Little’s key summer signings, it looks as though Tremarco will be first-choice left-back and he already looks too good for non-league football.

Tremarco leads by example and epitomises the new ethos among Little’s squad.

GAVIN WARD: An outside bet, Ward has the experience and know-how Little will look for and is a great communicator on the pitch. However, the question will be whether Ward can influence the rest of the squad from between the posts.
