Last week the Pioneer exclusively revealed how Vauxhall Motors ABC was launching an initiative to get kids off the street and involved in a sport which can provide them with ambition, discipline and respect. We went into town to find out your views.

RONALD WILSON, ELLES- MERE PORT: “I think it’s a good idea. I don’t know who is to blame for kids going out on the streets but hopefully this will make a difference.”

CHARLOTTE HARTS- HORNE, ELLES-MERE PORT: “I think their stress levels would go down so that would be a good thing. But it all depends on whether they want to go and do it.”

DESMOND POMPEUS, GREAT SUTTON: “This is a brilliant idea. I’m a music teacher and I know from experience that kids need something to aim for and focus on. The parents need to find out what their children are interested in, whether it be sport, music or arts, and encourage them.”

ELAINE WHITBY, ELLESMERE PORT: “Boxing is a great sport so this is an excellent campaign. I know when my brother was at school he was a bit of a tear-away but he got into boxing and it made a difference. He went on to be in the army and is a Gulf War veteran.”

JAMES WOODS, WHITBY: “There is nothing to do in the Port so I think this is a good idea. This is possibly the kind of thing they would want to do but it depends on whether the group leaders like it.”
