STUDENTS at high schools in Ellesmere Port and Neston are anxiously awaiting their A-level results tomorrow.
But students at West Cheshire College have already received the equivalent Level 3 qualifications.
Some 368 of those students applied for a place at university, with 80% accepting offers.
While 10 years ago A-levels were the main entry qualification for higher education, now about half of UK applicants to universities apply with other qualifications.
Sara Mogel, principal at West Cheshire College, said: “It is fantastic that so many of our students have applied and been accepted into university. These figures clearly show that there are alternative routes to successfully being accepted on to university degree courses other than the traditional route of A-levels.”
Alexander Reece, 17, studied health and social care BTEC extended diploma at West Cheshire College and has been accepted to study social work at the University of Chester.
He said: “I left school halfway through Year 10 to be home educated as I was being bullied at school.
“I decided to come to college as I didn’t want to go to the sixth form at my old school.
“One of my favourite things about the college is the fantastic facilities, which allows us to put ourselves in realistic patient scenarios which will help us to deal with the real thing in the future.”
Przemyslaw Mielniczek, 20, who completed the BTEC extended diploma in sport at West Cheshire College has been accepted on to a sports degree at Liverpool John Moores University.
She said: “I came over to England from Poland in 2008. I joined West Cheshire College to study English and vocational studies before starting the two-year sports course.
“Since I was 14 I have wanted to be a football coach. The course covers a wide range of topics, including coaching, and we get to plan and deliver coaching sessions which is a great experience.
“The college really helped me with my application to university and they gave me tips and advice on getting through UCAS.”
Emma Crump, 19, studied business BTEC extended diploma at the college and has been accepted on to a four-year business degree course at Manchester Metropolitan University.
She said: “The course is really interesting and you learn a lot of different aspects about business. I like the whole college experience as everybody here is really nice and the building is very modern with a really positive feel to it.”
