MANAGER Tommi Morgan has dismissed any thoughts that his Welshpool side are clear favourites ahead of today’s Welsh Cup semi-final tie with Afan Lido at Aberystwyth.

The Lilywhites go into the encounter in fine fettle, having consolidated third spot in the Welsh Premier with a nine-match unbeaten run since the New Year that has put them in third place and in the driving seat for European football.

Although fancied to reach the first Welsh cup final in their history, Morgan has warned that Lido will be no pushovers despite playing a level below in the Welsh League.

“We’ve had them watched a couple of times and we know it’s going to be difficult,” he said. “As a higher league side we are the favourites, but Lido have players with more experience than us, both in the Welsh Premier and also in Europe.

“We’ve reached the semi-final for the first time in our history – now we want to go one better and reach the final, but Afan Lido will want to do the same.”

He added: “League form will go out of the window.”

Pool have also played lower league opposition in three of the previous four rounds, having accounted for Pontypridd, Neath and Holyhead Hotspur.

Midfielder Richard Harris is suspended today, while a couple of players are carrying injury niggles, but player-coach Wayne Evans is set to return after missing the last two outings.

Morgan, meanwhile, was content with a point in the midweek 1-1 draw with Carmarthen as Pool rescued a draw courtesy of an injury-time penalty from Steve Rogers.

“I was happy enough with a point in the end because it didn’t look like we were going to get anything from the game,” he said. “In the end it was a good point, and keeps our run going.”
