A RECENTLY retired couple became lottery millionaires at the weekend and announced their good fortune to the world at the Cross Lanes Hotel in Marchwiel, near Wrexham.

Lyn and Mike Walker won £2,840,140 last Saturday night, although they didn't realise it until the following day.

Mike, 61, who has recently had a knee replacement operation, said: 'Finding out certainly took a lot of pain out of my knee!'

The Walkers ran a pub near Ruthin until February this year and have been living in Wales for 15 years. Lyn described the big win using the name of her favourite programme: 'It's absolutely fabulous. This was the first week we had changed our numbers and we've been doing the lottery since it started. I bought the ticket at Tesco in Llandudno Junction. The most we've won before was £120 when we got four numbers.'

The couple ran a pub in Yorkshire and both worked for ICI in Northwich where they hail from. Married for 35 years, they look forward to sharing some of their winnings with their family. A party is being planned and they will be thinking about donating to charities and their church.
