CALLS have been made for a new school to be built in the county borough.

Welsh Conservative AM Mark Isherwood has sent a letter to Welsh education minister Jane Hutt asking her to urgently think about recently submitted proposals by Wrexham County Borough Council for a new aided school in Brymbo.

The letter states: “I am told the Welsh Assembly Government has been reluctant to support a new school on the grounds that the aided pot is committed until 2012-2013.

“Schools across this part of Wrexham are nearing capacity, a new school will be needed sooner rather than later, but without certainty the council will be unable to plan ahead.

“Over 500 properties have recently been constructed in the area. Many of these properties have only been occupied in the past year and the real impact has therefore not yet been seen.

“The potential exists for an additional 250 properties on land allocated for housing elsewhere in the village of Brymbo.”

Mr Isherwood also asks the minister of her intended course of action.
