WORK gets under way to refurbish a crumbling Victorian roof next week.

The Station House in Hadlow Road, Willaston, near Neston, once stood on the old railway line that ran between Hooton and West Kirby.

On Monday workers will start on the Grade II listed Victorian building, which now forms part of the Wirral Country Park.

It provides office accommodation for Greenspace staff, public toilets and an historical display.

Although part of the car park and the country park will remain open, the public areas, including the toilets, will be closed.

Alternative parking for Wirral Country Park is available at Lees Lane in Neston and at the Old Baths car park in Parkgate.

Ledsham and Willaston councillor Gareth Anderson said: “The work will include a new damp- proof course, plastering and re-pointing and will be carried out by specialist contractors. During the work, which is estimated to take 12 weeks, staff will be relocated to Backford Hall.”
