NEV POWELL rated Bangor’s narrow win over Welshpool as their toughest so far.

Defender Lee Webber headed the only goal in the Farrar Road clash between the fourth and sixth-placed teams.

City’s manager said: “It was a superb game between two good sides and, with a big crowd, there was a great atmosphere.

“We had to graft hard for the points, which were well earned, and I think we shaded the play, but both sides were a credit to the league, especially considering the heavy conditions.

“If we had got that second goal, which was so close at times, it would have clinched things for us, but Welshpool kept battling and they are a dangerous team.

“I thought Michael Johnston, in central defence, was really outstanding and the best player on the pitch.”

The goal that separated the rivals came when Webber moved upfield for Peter Hoy’s long throw from the left touchline on 55 minutes.

When the ball reached the near-post, Webber out-jumped his markers and his backwards header went in off a post for his third goal of the campaign.

As City sought to double their advantage, Sion Edwards had a low free-kick blocked by McGuigan, who then got in the path of Ashley Stott’s follow-up shot.

Welshpool’s keeper parried another Stott threat, while Les Davies blazed off target from ten yards.

Welshpool’s best chances fell to Steve Rogers, who side-stepped three defenders only to drag the ball into the side netting and was then denied by keeper Paul Smith.
