Young chefs from Chrisleton and Waverton have battled it out in a Pizza Idol competition at a local pub.

The cook off between Christleton and Waverton primary schools took place at the Ring O’ Bells with fresh and exciting ideas to get everyone’s taste buds tingling.

Three pupils from each school entered the competition to turn their pizza dream into reality. Together with pizza chef Lee Hall, they developed their ideas and experienced what it is like to cook in a professional kitchen.

Judges, owner Ian Wade and head chef Andy King, were so impressed with the entries that it proved difficult to choose a winner but Waverton’s Beau McKeown was eventually crowned Pizza Idol 2016.

Beau creation was topped with prosciutto, pesto, artichoke, brie and olives on a tomato base pizza which will be featured on the Ring O’ Bells new spring/summer menu, which launches on Tuesday, April 12.

Ian Wade said: “Every year the quality of the entries gets better and 2016 proved that again.

“Thanks to everyone involved, we can’t wait to get the pizzas on our new menu!”

He especially thanked the Ring O’ Bells team for organising the event again and Christleton Primary School headteacher David Harker and administration officer at Waverton Primary School Amanda Poyner for their support and involvement.
