A KNIFEMAN attacked a passer-by and a teenage girl had her jaw broken in four days of violence on the streets of Ellesmere Port.

These incidents were among five vicious and unprovoked, but totally separate, attacks on youngsters and adults in the town between Thursday and Sunday.

Ellesmere Port police stress that such attacks are rare in the town, and urged witnesses or anybody with information to contact them immediately.

The knife attack happened at 9.10am on Sunday when a man was lunged at by a male as he walked along Sutton Way.

The victim, who is in his 20s, suffered injuries to his face and upper body and had to be taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

A female in her late teens had her jaw fractured in an assault in Queens Gardens at 7am on Saturday.

At 12.15am on Saturday, a boy in his early teens was punched in the head for no reason while he was walking along Sutton Way. He was knocked out cold as a result and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.

At 2.30pm on Friday, a man was punched to the ground while he was walking out of the Wetherspoons Thomas Telford pub in Whitby Road. As he fell to the ground, the male attacker kicked him in the head before fleeing the scene.

And finally, at 4.40am on Thursday, a male in his 40s was taken to hospital after he and his friend were punched and kicked to the floor.

The pair had paid to use a snooker table at a club in Whitby Road but were challenged as they left and asked to pay more money.

When they refused, having explained they had already paid, other people became involved in the altercation and the two men were assaulted.

Inspector Richard Rees of Ellesmere Port police said: “Unprovoked attacks in the Port are not common. Generally, assaults are between known parties.

“If anyone has any information about these incidents, then please make us aware.”
