THE war against organised crime came under the spotlight at a recent public meeting hosted by Halton police.

Superintendent Andy Marsden of Cheshire Police’s crime operations department, gave an insight to the work being done across the county to tackle serious crime.

He told members of the public that the department has 520 officers who work in specialist units, covering intelligence, forensics, as well as incorporating the force’s major investigation team, public protection unit and Special Branch.

He said several arrests have been made as a result of a covert operation to tackle drug distribution and supply in Halton and Warrington.

The operation involved high technology surveillance and information provided by the public.
