LIFE as a volunteer has really helped Brian Edwards in doing some- thing fulfilling in his retirement.

For the past year he has been helping out at Erddig, the National Trust property near Wrexham, on cycle hire.

Brian had a career as a business manager in food hygiene. It gave him the skills in helping to engage with visitors to promote the cycle hire initiative.

In 2008 Erddig was able to get grant support from Sport Wales to promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle through a cycle initiative.

The idea is to encourage people to take up bike riding as a means of exercise to help them keep fit and active.

The cycle hire shop opened late last year, with Brian joining as a volunteer to help run it.

During the day he hires out bikes and guides people on the three cycle routes across the country estate. They range in length from 1.5 miles to 3.5 miles.

So far this year the bike shop has proved to be a great success. So much so that Brian now needs help in running it.

Volunteers are needed to make sure the shop can stay open the five days of the week the property is open.
