JIM Vince has returned to Witton Albion to take Tony Barras to Halifax Town.

The former Macclesfield centre back spent two years at Wincham Park.

Vince, public enemy number one among Witton fans for his part in breaking up their successful side and his defection, apparently spoke to Barras before contacting Witton.

In pointedly marked contrast Albion boss Nigel Deeley has served seven days notice of approach on Halifax for front runner Nattone Awang, who has played friendlies for both clubs this summer.

“Jim says he is free to join us, but I am doing things properly,“ said Deeley.

With only Brian Pritchard and Rod Thornley remaining loyal Deeley will have made at least 15 signings before kick off on Saturday week. They may include Chris Gahgan, who left Witton for Bradford PA a year ago. He is considering terms.

Albion’s final friendly is at home to a Manchester City Xl on Tuesday (7pm).
