CHRIS VENABLES continued his fine goalscoring form with the second-half strike that boosted Welshpool’s hopes of making progress in the Loosemores Cup.

The former Caersws midfielder, having already netted four times in the Welsh Premier this term, was again on the mark to settle the group clash at Maesydre when he fired home from the edge of the box on 75 minutes following a neat build-up.

Victory took Pool to four points from two outings, the same as group leaders Caersws, leaving Newtown without a point from two games.

Mattie Lewis and Bellis had their moments in the first half for the Robins, while at the other end Mike Thompson fired inches wide.
