VAUXHALL’S Ellesmere Port plant has donated a new Zafira car for Cheshire police to use on community duties in the town.
Karl Williams, the force’s funding and income manager, said: “The vehicle will be a great benefit to community policing in the area, enabling community officers to patrol their beats efficiently.
“In Cheshire, we are at the forefront of neighbourhood policing and this is a tried and tested means of delivering policing services.
“The neighbourhood model relies on dedicated police staff being deployed to deal with ongoing issues.”
He added: “Neighbourhood Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers are active in the community dealing with local concerns. For example, elderly people get concerned about doorstep callers or nuisance youths.
“This would not necessarily require a fast response but the attendance of an officer to help reassure is often just as important to vulnerable citizens. This vehicle provides the means to deliver efficient and effective responses to policing problems at a local level.”
