Silsden 1 Winsford United 0

SHOT-SHY United failed to break their duck at Cougar Park and were made to pay for their lack of creativity.

A combination of a poor midfield performance and some inconsistent refereeing led to the Blues succumbing once again to a single- goal defeat.

They failed to create a single clear-cut chance with only two long- range free kicks causing home keeper Martin Foulger any concern.

Keeper Ian Lowe was in early action saving a free kick from Craig Smith and then denying a header from Aaron Hollindrake with a stop at the foot of the post.

It was 24 minutes before the visitors launched their first serious attack and it was probably the best move of the match with Lee Madin’s run down the right resulting in a cross that Darren Connell guided just wide of the post.

Winsford almost took the lead at the start of the second period when Dean Ennion’s free kick was pushed around the post by Foulger.

Silsden increased the pressure and only a series of fine saves by Lowe kept the scores level. However, on 71 minutes, Tony Sayer was mysteriously adjudged to have committed a foul and the resulting free kick was glanced home by Danny Toronczak giving Lowe no chance.

Blues: Lowe; Sayer, Riley, Calland, Callaghan; Couch, Madin, Ennion, Baptista; Mason (Holmes 85), Connell (McDonnell 68). Unused subs: Rowley, Nolan, Sawtell.
