A NEW team will make sure United Utilities follows environmental guidelines.
Brothers Graham and Chris Maggs are part of the nine-strong environmental compliance team – the first of its kind set up by a utility company – which will make sure UU is abiding by new environmental legislation.
It will also look at more sustainable ways of managing waste.
At Ellesmere Port wastewater treatment works the team has already set up an on-site recycling facility.
Team leader Rick Mills said: “At Ellesmere Port we have implemented recycling bins, which means we now segregate our waste and it can be taken away for recycling rather than going to landfill.
“We are now recycling cardboard, wood, metal, plastic, newspapers, fluorescent tubes and oil .
“This has helped to vastly reduce the amount of commercial and industrial wastes we were sending to landfill.”
